Sani-touch®, Hudson Diphofa and Hot Cares unite to demonstrate the power of South Africa’s circular economy.
Johannesburg, 6 August 2026
What begins as a simple supermarket trolley wipe has become something far more meaningful—a place where children can laugh, play and simply be children.
On Thursday the 6th of August, Sani-touch®, together with entrepreneur Hudson Diphofa of Structural Poly and Hot Cares (Hot 102.7 FM), proudly unveiled and donated another jungle gym this time to the Frida Hartley Shelter in Johannesburg, together with a range of hygiene products to support the shelter’s ongoing work.
While the donation will bring immediate joy to the children, it also tells a much bigger story about sustainability, innovation and community collaboration.
Turning Saniwipes® into something new
For more than a decade, Sani-touch® has supplied its distinctive green Saniwipes® to retailers across South Africa, helping millions of shoppers disinfect trolley handles before shopping. Unlike many disposable hygiene products, Sani-touch® Saniwipes® are manufactured from 100% recyclable polypropylene and were intentionally designed to support South Africa’s growing circular economy.
Rather than allowing used Saniwipes® wipes to end up in landfill, Sani-touch® has worked with retail partners to ensure that the polypropylene material can be collected and recycled into new products.
One of the beneficiaries of this initiative has been Katlehong entrepreneur Hudson Diphofa, whose business transforms recycled polypropylene planks into durable outdoor furniture and recreational equipment.
Over the years, Sani-touch® has proudly supported Hudson’s entrepreneurial journey as he has built a business that not only diverts waste from landfill but also creates value from it.
The jungle gym donated to the Frida Hartley Shelter is a powerful example of what a circular economy looks like in practice.
Material that once played a role in protecting shoppers has now been transformed into something that will bring years of enjoyment to children in need.
“This project represents everything we believe in,” says Annette Devenish, Marketing Director from Sani-touch®.
Sustainability with purpose
“Good hygiene, environmental responsibility and supporting local entrepreneurs should never exist in isolation. When we work together, we can protect people, reduce waste, create opportunities and make a real difference in our communities. Seeing recycled material transformed into a playground for children is the perfect example of sustainability with purpose.”
Alongside the jungle gym, Sani-touch® also donated a range of hygiene products to the shelter, reinforcing its commitment to protecting health wherever it can make a meaningful impact.
The initiative was made possible through Hot Cares, the community upliftment arm of Hot 102.7 FM, whose ongoing work continues to connect generous organisations with charities making a lasting difference in people’s lives.
More than recycling
The donation is a reminder that sustainability is about much more than recycling. It is about creating lasting social impact.
Every green Sani-touch® Saniwipe® used by shoppers has the potential to become something new—supporting entrepreneurs, reducing landfill and helping build stronger communities.
This journey has resulted in something every child deserves: a safe place to play.
